The grand opening was held on New year’s eve 1970 and was attended by many politicians and top crime figures. The hotel was closed in 1974 after it was raided while a top Mafia meeting was being held on the premises. This raid resulted in the arrest and incarceration of Joe "the butcher" Lorenzo, and sky rocketed the Hotel into world news, and scared away all business.
The hotel was reopened in 1979 under new management. Hoping to distance the hotel from its sketchy past, the new owners sought out This landmark building has, over the years, has been home to many sports, film, and Tv stars.
